Spray Tan Prep & Aftercare
A flawless spray tan starts before your appointment and continues with proper aftercare. Follow these simple steps to get the most beautiful, even, and long-lasting results..
BEFORE YOUR APPOINTMENT
Exfoliate your entire body 24 hours before your appointment using an oil-free exfoliant. This is the most important step in any prep routine. Pay extra attention to dry areas such as your elbows, knees, ankles, hands, and feet.
Shaving and waxing should be completed at least 24 hours before your spray tan.
Plan to complete all other beauty services before your spray tan, including waxing, facials, manicures, pedicures, massages, and other treatments. These services can exfoliate or affect the skin and may interfere with your tan.
Discontinue retinol, retinoids, AHAs, BHAs, exfoliating acids, and other active skincare products 3–5 days before your spray tan. These ingredients can increase skin cell turnover and exfoliation, which may cause your tan to develop unevenly or fade more quickly.
Resume your active skincare routine once your tan has fully faded.
Please arrive free of lotions, oils, perfume, deodorant, makeup, and other skincare products. These can create a barrier and affect how your tan develops.
Wear or bring loose, dark clothing and sandals to wear after your appointment. Avoid anything tight that may rub against your developing tan. Long sleeves and long pants are very strongly suggested, regardless of the weather.
AFTER YOUR APPOINTMENT
Once your spray tan is applied, avoid touching, rubbing, or scratching your skin while your tan is developing. Keep skin-to-skin contact to a minimum, as friction and moisture can cause uneven development, streaking, or transfer.
Your technician will let you know exactly when to rinse based on your customized solution and desired results. Do not wash your hands, shower, sweat, swim, or get wet before your recommended rinse time.
Use lukewarm water and gently rinse until the cosmetic bronzer has washed away. Avoid soap during your first rinse unless instructed otherwise. Pat your skin dry. Do not rub.
Keep your skin hydrated with an oil-free moisturizer to help extend the life of your tan.
Hot water, long showers, pools, hot tubs, and excessive exfoliation can cause your tan to fade more quickly.
Oil-based products, exfoliants, retinol, and certain acne treatments can cause your tan to fade unevenly. Any adhesives on the skin, including boob tape, bandages, and pimple patches, should be avoided.
